Story Behind Everest Fund
Our story unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving educational ecosystem, where the cost of acquiring knowledge often exceeded the means of those seeking it. It is a narrative that chronicles the evolution of a simple yet audacious idea into a powerful force for change. This is the tale of a university funding website—a digital revolution that bridged the gap between aspiration and opportunity, between dreams deferred and realized.
Nepal’s greatest development opportunity of our time is an educated society capable of managing and solving economic, agricultural, and climate issues facing the country.
Nepal’s failure to apply advanced science and technology practices to industrial and agricultural activities over time has significantly reduced the rate at which Nepal can reach its full economic potential.
An educated Nepal is the solution and now is the time.
The Everest Fund for Science and Technology was established to support Madan Bhandari University Science & Technology (MBUST), a higher-level institution formed to foster graduate-level students in fields that directly address real-world issues faced by Nepal’s economy.
The MBUST is a new, innovative educational institution with genuinely home-grown initiatives. More often than not, innovative development concepts are attempts by outsiders to establish efforts that worked elsewhere. However well-meaning such efforts are, they often fail due to a lack of local context and proper domestic ownership.
This effort is different.
The development of MBUST is based on decades of professional experiences by Nepali academics who boldly build high-quality science and technology programs in Nepal and witness the serious barriers firsthand. These academics can identify the problems and execute the solutions.
Many in Nepal think it is a small miracle that Nepali academics, such as Professor Joshi and his colleagues, have managed to create such a transparent and independent governance structure for MBUST.
A proper organizational foundation has been laid with the support of the World Bank. Through rigorous procurement and hiring processes, the university has already set itself apart as an institution that is free from and does not tolerate corruption, nepotism, favoritism, and discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, or political preferences.
The leadership team understands how to create high-quality science and technology programs and an environment that is professional, inclusive, and innovative.
Now, the university needs international funding to support the Madan Bhandari University Science & Technology, a significant innovation engine and academic pillar of Nepal.
