MBUST Infrastructure
Physical facilities for the University are being developed at Chitlang at about 25km from the Kathmandu City center. It is just across the Chandragiri ridge separating Kathmandu Valley from Chitlang Valley.
Two graduate program buildings with a floor area of 1,300 sq. m. each are already functional. The construction of the third graduate program building with a floor area of 4,100 sq. m. is expected to be completed in April 2024. Bids have been received for the construction of the fourth graduate program building with a floor area of 4,100 sqm.
Basic support infrastructure such as internet, water supply, power supply, and waste disposal has been completed. A grid-connected 500kWp solar plant with 400kWh energy storage has been completed to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Laboratories for natural products extraction and analysis and a greenhouse are operational. A maker shop is being commissioned.
The University guided by sustainability concerns and climate change mitigation needs has adopted an innovative approach to the development of physical facilities. Some of the examples are:
-
- Solar plant with energy storage to avoid diesel generation for backup supply
- Segregation of liquid waste at the source
- Waste water treatment plant
- Prioritized and automated power supply system
- Double-leaf walls with insulation
- Double glazed windows
- Use of Bamboo and Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks for construction
